Sip Down the 606: Pub Crawl Planned Along Bloomingdale Trail
Organizers have chosen five bars along the upcoming trail where people can snag food and drinks while learning more about the new park.

What better way to learn more about a more than $50 million park development project than by sipping cocktails in its honor?
The Friends of the Bloomingdale Trail and the Trust for Public Land are joining forces and organizing a pub crawl to benefit the trail, now known as The 606. Scheduled for this Saturday at 4 p.m., the event will stop at five bars within walking distance of the trail.
“Sip your way along The 606! Join FBT and TPL as we sample 5 watering holes along the future trail,” organizers wrote on their Facebook page. “Between each stop we'll catch glimpses of the rail line and learn about what’s to come with new park and trail network.”
For a suggested $25 donation, pub crawlers will receive drink discounts and food at each location along the trail. They include:
- Bucktown Pub, 1658 W. Cortland St., 4-4:30 p.m.
- Map Room, 1949 N. Hoyne Ave., 5-5:30 p.m.
- Green Eye, 2403 W. Homer St., 6-6:30 p.m.
- Marble, 3281 W. Armitage Ave., 7-7:30 p.m.
- Weegee’s Lounge, 3659 W. Armitage Ave., 8 p.m.
Planned for the top of an abandoned, 2.7-mile Canadian Pacific Railway viaduct between Ashland and Ridgeway Avenues, the linear park will be managed by the Chicago Park District. CDOT will maintain the viaduct’s walls and bridges, and the Park District will maintain the trail and 13 acres of open space planned for the top.
The century-old viaduct, which runs adjacent to Bloomingdale Avenue, ceased to be used for regularly scheduled rail operations in 2001. Its redevelopment as park and trail will link four ethnically and economically diverse Chicago communities—Wicker Park, Bucktown, Humboldt Park and Logan Square—and five neighborhood parks.
