Wicker Park Resident Wins President’s Scholarship

Wicker Park's Leticia Aquliar wins President's Scholarship for advanced study.

After taking time off from ‘behind the chair’ to raise her family, long-time cosmetologist and instructor at Stephen Papageorge Hair Academy – and Wicker Park resident - Leticia Aquilar’s goal was to return to servicing beauty clients. “I have extensive training in cosmetology, having studied in Mexico and taken advanced training at the TONI & GUY and TIGI Advanced Academies in Santa Monica, Dallas and NYC. Over the past few years, I have taken time off from servicing clients - choosing to teach cosmetology instead – and I am now ready to resume servicing clients; this scholarship to study at the Sassoon Academy in London will give me to sparkle that I need. I am a member of Cosmetologists Chicago, and extremely grateful to receive the opportunity that this scholarship provides.”

Steven Papageorge, President of Papageorge Hair Academy comments, “Leticia is one of our leading cosmetology teachers. She has a great relationship with the students, and has shaped our curriculum with her ideas to further student immersion. She has knowledge, abilities, and charisma … and is very deserving of the scholarship from Cosmetologists Chicago.”

Cosmetologists Chicago (not for profit) is the largest association of salon professionals in the Midwest – the association gives back to the community by awarding over a dozen scholarships for advanced study each year. Additionally, Cosmetologists Chicago owns and produces America's Beauty Show, which has over a $116 million impact on the local economy. America’s Beauty Show will run March 30 – April 1, 2019 @ McCormick Place. www.americasbeautyshow.com
