Adlai Stevenson's Lake Co. Home Gets National Historic Landmark Status

The Lake County house was the governor and presidential candidate's home from the 1930s through his death in 1965.

Illinois Governor and two-time presidential candidate Adlai Stevenson II’s home and farm, in what is now Mettawa, will be dedicated Sunday as a National Historic Landmark, according to an article in the Chicago Tribune.

The home, which sits on 70 acres, is where Stevenson raised his family, along with sheep, horses and vegetables, the article says. He entertained Eleanor Roosevelt and President John F. Kennedy on its porch.
