Buffalo Grove Bicyclist Dies Of Injuries From Recent Car Crash

The 72-year-old man was injured June 18 in an accident involving a car in Wheeling.

WHEELING, IL — A 72-year-old man died Thursday, almost one week after being injured in an accident involving a car while he was riding his bike in Wheeling. Thomas Hughes, of the 0-100 block of Villa Verde Drive, had been taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with critical injuries following the crash, according to a news release from the Wheeling Police Department.

He was pronounced dead at 3:21 pm. Thursday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

At around 6:45 p.m. June 18, Wheeling police responded to the accident in the area of Wheeling Road, south of Gilman Avenue. Hughes was taken to the hospital at this time.

Police said the accident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed as of Saturday.
