Columnist Mary Schmich Visits Library

Chicago Tribune columnist Mary Schmich visited the Vernon Area Public Library this week.

Chicago Tribune columnist and Pulitzer Prize winner Mary Schmich was greeted by a full house Monday night at Vernon Area Public Library.

The event, which was so popular that the library established a waiting list, featured a 30-minute interview of Schmich by library staff member Roz Topolski. Schmich then took questions from the audience, responding to queries about professional and personal aspects of her life, before autographing copies of her books.

Schmich's recently released book, Even the Terrible Things Seem Beautiful to Me Now, is a collection of her Tribune columns. She is also the author of Wear Sunscreen: A Primer for Real Life, which originated as a column and was later turned into a popular song.
