Man Arrested After Buffalo Grove Burglary Leads To SWAT Standoff

A 25-year-old Rolling Meadows resident was arrested Saturday after breaking into a Buffalo Grove house, leading to a standoff with police.

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. - A Rolling Meadows man was arrested on Saturday after breaking into a Buffalo Grove residence, causing a standoff with SWAT officers, according to a statement by the Buffalo Grove Police Department.

Anthony Garcia, 25, was arrested and charged with residential burglary, a Class 1 felony, and was transported to the Cook County Courthouse for a bond hearing. The Daily Herald noted that he could spend up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

Buffalo Grove Police received a 911 call at approximately 7:50 p.m. on Saturday, with the caller relaying information about an "unknown subject in their residence" in the 900 block of Beechwood Road. According to police, the residents were not home when the incident took place, but were alerted to Garcia's presence by an alert from their Ring doorbell camera.

Police responded to the residence to find a damaged window and a man inside whom they identified as Garcia. After police officers made their presence known, the suspect retreated to the basement of the home, where he barricaded himself and remained non-compliant, according to police.

Buffalo Grove officers were aided by multiple other police agencies, as well as a SWAT response team from the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS). After a series of negotiations, Garcia was taken into custody.

Buffalo Grove Deputy Police Chief Michael Szos told the Lake & McHenry County Scanner that "Garcia was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released back into police custody for processing."

Garcia was transported to the Cook County Courthouse in Rolling Meadows, where he was released Monday afternoon after posting a $50,000 bond.
