NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The city of Naperville announced today that it will be hosting a mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic on Wednesday, April 7, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for eligible residents of the city.

The city announced that 2700 doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine will be made available, allowing participants of the clinic to receive a full dose in a single visit, as the Johnson & Johnson vaccine requires only one shot. In comparison, the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines both require two shots to be administered multiple weeks apart for full effectiveness.

The clinic is being put on by the city in partnership with supermarket chain Jewel-Osco and the Mall of India, a large retail shopping space specializing in Indian goods. Naperville officials lauded the efforts of the businesses to help bring more appointments to those who are most at risk of contracting COVID-19.

"I am extremely pleased that, through the power of partnership, we are able to host our second COVID-19 vaccination site for our residents," said Naperville Mayor Steve Chirico in a statement. "Vaccination is an important way that we can protect ourselves and others. On behalf of the city of Naperville, thank you to Jewel-Osco and the Mall of India for helping provide the venue and vaccines that will help save lives in our community and region."

The clinic will be open to eligible Naperville residents only. Those currently eligible to receive the vaccine include anyone 65 and over, people 18 and over who qualify as essential workers, and people 18 and over with pre-existing conditions, such as heart conditions and pulmonary disease. An appointment is mandatory, and no walk-ins will be accepted.

The event will be held in a large building owned by the Mall of India, just south of the current mall site, and the clinic will be run by medical staff from Jewel-Osco. "We were pleased to provide our space for a vaccination event for seniors last month, and we're once again thrilled to open our space for this necessary cause," said the owners of the Mall of India, Vinoz Chanamolu and Ajay Sunkara.

The clinic will be located at 776 S. Route 59 in Naperville, near the corner of Route 59 and Ogden Ave. Naperville residents can sign up for an appointment on the Albertson's website.
