New Weekly Coronavirus Cases Rise In Buffalo Grove, State

There have been 3,310 coronavirus cases in Buffalo Grove since the pandemic began, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Health officials in Illinois are continuing to see an uptick in coronavirus cases across the state. The Illinois Department of Public Health reported Friday 4,004 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in Illinois, including 21 additional deaths.

In Buffalo Grove, cases have been rising for the last month after a drastic drop in cases to start 2021. As of Friday, there have been 3,310 confirmed coronavirus-related cases in Buffalo Grove since the start of the pandemic, according to the IDPH. The Lake County Health Department reports there have been 57,506 confirmed cases and 953 deaths in Lake County.

The Lake County recovery rate from the coronavirus is currently 98.3 percent. Recovered cases are defined as persons with initial positive specimen collection date greater than 42 days who have not expired. The Recovery rate is calculated as the recovered cases divided by the sum of recovered cases and total deceased cases.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 1,273,200 cases, including 21,476 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years. Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 101,737 specimens for a total of 21,017,929. As of Thursday night, 1,808 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 369 patients were in the ICU and 163 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

The total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses for Illinois is 8,841,285. This number includes doses allocated for the federal government’s Pharmacy Partnership Program for long-term care facilities, which effectively has ended. A total of 6,871,645 vaccines have been administered in Illinois as of last midnight. The seven-day rolling average of vaccines administered daily is 118,336 doses. On Thursday, a record 164,462 doses were reported administered in Illinois.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reports 63,598 people have been tested across Buffalo Grove (zip codes 60069, 60089) as of Friday. That marks an increase of 2,342 tests since our last report on March 19. For further comparison, there were 1,638 tests between March 12-19.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner, 34 people have died due to COVID-19 in the Cook County portion of Buffalo Grove since April 6. The last death happened on Feb. 15.

According to the medical examiner, the age breakdown for the 34 deaths are: 80+ (20), 70-79 (8) and 60-69 (6).

As of Friday, there have been 1,084 coronavirus-related cases in the Cook County portion of Buffalo Grove, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reports there have been 4,069 confirmed coronavirus cases and 543 deaths in long-term care facilities in Lake County. In the past, the IDPH has temporarily removed some cases and deaths on three occasions since Patch has been tracking these numbers, before including them back in at a later date.

  • Symphony Buffalo Grove — 99 cases, 10 deaths (open)/34 cases, 5 deaths (open)

These numbers include both residents and employees of the long-term care facilities.
