BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department (except when noted) and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.

Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

SUSPENDED/REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Daniel Martinez, 46, of the 1300 block of Kildeer, Round Lake, is accused of having a suspended/revoked driver's license, expired registration, and was arrested at 4:36 p.m. June 3 at Buffalo Grove and Lake Cook roads. He was assigned a court date of July 9.

RETAIL THEFT

Sandra R. Sommerman, 76, of the 200 block of Windsor Drive, Buffalo Grove, is accused of retail theft (under $500), and was arrested at 11:11 a.m. June 4 at Woodman's Grocery, 1550 E Deerfield Parkway. She was assigned a court date of July 13.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY
A resident in the 300 block of Hawthorne Road reported at 12:57 p.m. June 6 that he saw someone sitting in his car in the driveway while it was running. The complainant said he confronted the male, who then gave the resident the keys to all his vehicles. The resident said all the keys had been inside the home. The resident restrained the male until police arrived. Jonathan D. Townsend, 22, of the 2000 block of Kenicott Drive, Arlington Heights, is accused of residential burglary and was arrested. He was assigned a court date of June 7.

  • A customer at Woodman's Grocery, 1550 E Deerfield Parkway, voiced his opinion at 1:45 a.m. June 3 that he did not like how another customer was speaking to an employee. The other customer apologized for his comments and both of the customers left the store.
  • A person reported at 6:30 p.m. June 3 that he felt his taxi driver was overcharging him for his ride in the 800 block of Summer Court. Prior to the officer's departure, the complainant decided to pay the fee and will follow up with customer service.
  • A customer called police at 1:15 p.m. June 5 to report they were advised that the wash damaged an interior part of his vehicle at Royal Touch Car Wash, 1701 Weiland Road. The car wash management informed the officer that they did not cause the damage.

INVESTIGATION

Employees of a cleaning service called police at 3:08 a.m. June 4 to report hearing a door slam and seeing someone in the building at the Jewish Council for Youth Services, 1700 Weiland Road. A subsequent investigation by police found no one beside the cleaning crew was in the building during the reported sighting.

NOISE COMPLAINT

A person reported at 7:51 p.m. June 4 someone in the area of the 1900 block of Sheridan Road was playing loud music and told police that this was an ongoing issue. The officer located the music source and contacted the resident, who said they would keep it down.

SUSPICIOUS AUTO

A person called police at 9:01 a.m. June 4 to report a male carrying a clipboard approached him. The person said they refused to speak to the male and provided police with his vehicle's description.

NUISANCE COMPLAINT

A person reported at 10 p.m. June 4 that several "Pride" yard signs., along with other yard decorations, had been pushed over or uprooted during the last week or so.

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT/CIRCUMSTANCES

  • A person called police at 11:28 p.m. June 4 to report someone trying to light a mattress on fire near the street. The property management company was contacted to remove the charred mattress.
  • A resident in the 700 block of Heatherdown Way reported at 5 p.m. June 7 that someone shot airsoft pellets at his residence. There was no observed damage to his residence or property.

VANDALISM

During a routine patrol, police saw fresh spray-painted graffiti on the side of a building at 5:24 p.m. June 5 in the 900 block of W Dundee Road. The property management company was notified.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

During a routine patrol, police located a broken window at 5:29 p.m. June 5 on an abandoned building at the Toyota Scion Dealership, 935 W Dundee Road.

NEIGHBORHOOD TROUBLE

A resident in the 1000 block of Larraway Drive reported at 8:45 a.m. June 7 that his neighbor was accusing him of building a fence on her property. The responding officer reviewed the complainant's plot of survey and confirmed the fence was being built on the complainant's yard, and was replacing an old fence. Police spoked to the neighbor and advised them of their findings.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICE

A Larraway Drive resident called police at 4 p.m. June 7 to report she called a customer service number she located on a Google search in reference to a recent online purchase. The alleged customer service representative told her he could offer her a refund, but she needed to purchase gift cards. The complainant contacted the representative at another number he provided and gave him the gift card numbers (less than $300). She said she then became suspicious and ended the call.
