Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For Lake, Cook Counties

More flooding could be on its way.

LAKE COUNTY, IL - A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for southeastern Lake County, northeastern DuPage County and northern Cook County through 9:45 a.m. Very heavy rainfall and large hail is expected.

Just after 9:20 a.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Highland Park to near Hoffman Estates, moving southeast at 40 mph.

Locations impacted include Chicago, Arlington Heights, Evanston, Schaumburg, Palatine, Skokie, Des Plaines, Mount Prospect, Hoffman Estates, Glenview, Elmhurst, Lombard, Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, Park Ridge, Addison, Northbrook, Highland Park, Wilmette and Vernon Hills.

Residents are encouraged to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Torrential rainfall and flooding are also occurring with these storms. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Meanwhile, a flash flood emergency has been issued for Lake and northeastern McHenry counties through 11 a.m. In addition, a flash flood warning is in effect through 10:45 a.m. for southern Lake, northern Kane, southern McHenry, northern DuPage and northwestern Cook counties.

Towns that are expected to experience additional flooding due to the latest round of storms include: Elgin, Arlington Heights, Evanston, Schaumburg, Palatine, Skokie, Des Plaines, Mount Prospect, Hoffman Estates, Glenview, Elmhurst, Lombard, Buffalo Grove, Carol Stream, Carpentersville, Wheeling, Park Ridge, Addison, Northbrook and St. Charles.
