Stevenson High School Names New Football Coach

Mike Morrissey comes to Stevenson High School after two successful seasons at Moline.

LINCOLNSHIRE, IL - Stevenson High School has a new football coach. It's Mike Morrissey, a veteran head coach who comes to the north suburbs after two seasons at the helm of the program at Moline High School. Morrissey, who is no relation to a former Stevenson star football player with the same name, becomes the Patriots' fifth head football coach.

At Moline, Morrissey went 16-5 over two seasons, won the Western Big 6 conference championship twice and had his team in the IHSA Class 7A state playoffs both years, according to Stevenson High School athletics. Before he got there, Moline only had one winning season in nine years.

“My family and I are extremely honored to have the opportunity to be a part of something special here at Stevenson High School," Morrissey said. “Throughout the hiring process it was very clear that the people at Stevenson are what makes it an amazing place for students and teachers alike.”

Morrissey will replace Josh Hjorth, who resigned in November after two seasons at the helm. Hjorth compiled a 12-8 record and reached the Class 8A state playoffs in both seasons.

“Mike brings an enthusiasm and energy that are contagious,” said Stevenson Athletic Director Trish Betthauser. “He’s a student-centered teacher and coach who is completely invested in developing young men and women. Whether it’s the classroom or the field, Mike has shown his commitment to learning and his passion for working with others.”
