Woman Accused Of Stealing 18 Whiskey Bottles From Jewel: Blotter

BUFFALO GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Buffalo Grove Police Department (except when noted) and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced.

Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

  • Cesar Gerardo Munoz-Torres, 37, of the 4100 block of N McVicker Avenue, Chicago, is accused of retail theft, and was arrested at 10:08 p.m. Jan. 27. An employee of Jewel-Osco, 79 McHenry Road, reported at 7:02 p.m. Jan. 11 that a male, later identified as Munoz-Torres, placed four cases of Modelo Special in a shopping cart and left the store without paying. The employee was able to give a description of the car Munoz-Torres left in and a license plate. His bond was set at $2,500 and he was assigned a court date of Feb. 12 in Waukegan.
  • Angelique Mariah Payne, 20, of the 9900 block of Montana Avenue, Franklin Park, is accused of two counts of retail theft, and was arrested at 4:43 p.m. Jan. 22. An employee at Jewel-Osco, 79 McHenry Road, reported on Jan. 15 that Payne stole 18 bottles of Jameson Irish Whiskey. She was seen on surveillance video putting two cases in the bottom of the cart and one case on the top of the cart, according to the employee. She then places two boxes of diapers on top of the cart and leaves the store without paying for them. Payne was recognized by the employee for past thefts at the store. She was due in court for a bond hearing on Jan. 23 in Waukegan.

NO DRIVER'S LICENSE/PERMIT

Quibin Arnaldo Gomez Mendez, 33, of the 4000 block of Bonhill Drive, Arlington Heights, is accused of no driver's license/permit, failure to reduce speed, damage to village property, and was arrested at 8:45 a.m. Jan. 26 in the 900 block of Dundee Road. He was given a $2,500 bond and assigned a court date of Feb. 19 in Mundelein.

INCIDENTS

IDENTITY THEFT

Officers took reports from 39 fraud complainants who received notifications from either their employers or the Illinois Department of Employment Security that their information was used to apply for benefits without their permission.

MOTORIST DISPUTE

A citizen reported at 12:23 p.m. Jan. 24 that they were driving eastbound on Dundee Road when they were cut off by another driver while merging in the left-hand turning lane at Buffalo Grove Road. The citizen said the other driver was driving erratically and was enraged with her. At a traffic light, she said a male in the passenger's seat reached into the back seat and held up what appeared to be a handgun, but also may have been a BB gun or paintball gun. Police were able to reach the other driver by phone, who claims the citizen was the one that cut her off, honked and appeared visibly angry. She said there were no weapons displayed and the citizen may have mistaken a middle finger displayed by her boyfriend as a gun.

EMPLOYER/EMPLOYEE DISPUTE

The postmaster at U.S. Post Office, 255 N Buffalo Grove Road, called 911 at 9:32 a.m. Jan. 28 to report they were having issues with one of their employees. Following a complaint regarding the employee, the postmaster had placed them on administrative leave. When approached, the postmaster said the employee became irate, threatened to harm the postmaster and made contact with the postmaster with their chest/belly. A union steward representing the employee had to separate them from the postmaster. The incident was reported to the Postal Inspector's Office.

HARASSMENT THROUGH ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION

A St. Mary's Parkway resident reported at 5:19 p.m. Jan. 25 that they had filed an e-report regarding a suspicious incident and threats they had been receiving via email. The resident said they had been threatened with home invasion. The resident said they worked in cryptocurrency and the company he works for was the victim of a data breach in December. The resident said their personal information had been leaked. Since then, they've been receiving phishing attempts, threatening emails and attempts to get the resident to reveal information necessary to assess their cryptocurrency accounts. The resident said they had not revealed any information and had taken steps to protect their identity.

CUSTOMER/MANAGEMENT DISPUTE

An attendant at the Shell Gas Station, 185 N Milwaukee Avenue called police at 9:21 p.m. Jan. 26 to report that between the hours of 2-3 a.m. that day an unknown male tried to buy a pack of Marlboro Red cigarettes, but his debit card did not cover the entire purchase price. The male then opened the cigarette pack, left his ID, saying that he would return to pay the balance. The male did not return to pay for the cigarettes during the employee's shift. During the attendant's next shift, the customer returned and attempted to buy another pack of cigarettes. The attendant confronted the male about the previously unpaid cigarettes, to which the customer started yelling at the employee before leaving the gas station.

FORGERY

The general manager at Woodman's, 1550 E Deerfield Parkway, reported at 4:27 p.m. Jan. 25 that during a cash audit, they found two fraudulent $100 bills. While reviewing security camera footage, they saw a man present the fraudulent bills to buy a $100 Mastercard gift car and a $3.99 Hallmark greeting card. The man left the store with $89.74 in change. Police collected the bills and said the polyester strip security measure showed it to be a $10 bill, but the rest of the bill was redrawn into a $100 bill. The secondary watermark was Alexander Hamilton, but the main portrait shows Benjamin Franklin.
