Local 149 Announces More Than A Dozen Open Union Jobs
Applications being accepted online and in-person through Friday

UA Local 149 – the labor union representing more than 600 East Central Illinois residents – is accepting applications this week for one of more than a dozen positions with the union’s 2021 apprentice class.
Upon admission, first-year apprentices will immediately make $20.75 an hour and have generous health insurance benefits, while also building toward a pension. By their fifth year in the apprenticeship program, they are paid $39.20 an hour, before testing to become to a journeyman, where they will earn a total hourly package of $66.38 an hour.
Local 149 members work for more than 40 local companies, providing plumbing, heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, steam, industrial process, boiler and medical-gas piping services across the area. All members began their careers as apprentices.

Under the supervision of union leaders, apprentices will complete 240 hours of training and 1,700 hours on the job each year for five years before advancing to journeyman.
Those interested can complete an application online at www.ualocal149.com/training/application anytime until Friday. Or, you can drop off an application at the union hall, 1005 N. Dunlap Ave. in Savoy, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday or Friday this week.

All applicants must provide a copy of their driver’s license, birth certificate, high school transcripts or GED equivalent. Also, for those still in high school, a letter from a guidance counselor saying you are on track to graduate in Spring 2021 is required.
All applicants will be notified of the upcoming test dates and must pay a $20 study guide fee at the time of the test.
