University Of Illinois Free Tuition 'Commitment': Who Qualifies?
Don't qualify? There are other ways to receive financial aid, according to the university.

CHAMPAIGN, IL — The University of Illinois announced a "commitment" Monday, pledging up to four years of free tuition to qualifying students beginning in fall 2019. Those who qualify for Illinois Commitment will receive their undergraduate education for free, thanks to U of I's mission as a land-grant institution. To qualify, the student and family needs to meet the following criteria, according to the university's admissions website:
- You're an Illinois resident, and parents who are listed on the FAFSA are also Illinois residents
- Your family income is $61,000 or less
- Your family's assets are less than $50,000
- You're admitted as a new freshman or transfer student
- You're under the age of 24
You may also qualify for your application fee to be waived.

Don't meet the criteria to qualify for Illinois Commitment? Is your family's income more than $61,000? There are still other financial aid options available to help you and your family cover the cost of an Illinois education, such as employment, grants, loans and other programs and options, according to the university.
