This spring will see new spins on old traditions as Bloom Township High School District 206 works to give seniors a proper closing experience during the pandemic.

District educators and administrators have worked to design a few key events at both Bloom and Bloom Trail high schools that will ensure traditional end-of-year celebrations still take place.

This event will provide Bloom High School seniors an opportunity to create memories and celebrate the completion of their high school journey. The event will take place in the circle in front of Bloom, and will include music, food, games, a photo booth, and senior gifts.

In order to adhere to social distancing guidelines and safety protocols, families are instructed to arrive in pre-designated groups. Volunteers will be present to greet and cheer on the seniors, providing an encouraging environment in a small celebration of their success.

The Bloom High School administration team thanks Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez and Chief of Staff Karen Zarente, who are helping to ensure 10th Street will be easy to navigate for senior students taking part in the event.

2021 Last Dance

Bloom Trail High School seniors will experience a socially safe twist on prom. The school sent out a survey to students and most respondents said they wanted a prom celebration.

In this approach to having a prom, students will get dressed up and walk a red carpet at Bloom Trail, with a photographer present to capture photos. They will also receive a swag bag with goodies and a t-shirt.

A National Honor

Bloom and Bloom Trail high schools will both hold National Honor Society ceremonies, welcoming new inductees into the nationwide organization. Students who are inducted into the NHS take the member pledge and participate in the presentation of the pillars and candle lighting. All students will be socially distanced and only NHS current and new members will be in attendance.

Superintendent Lenell Navarre said the event would not be nearly as easy to accomplish if not for a unified district of educators and support from the City of Chicago Heights.

“I really want to share my appreciation for our leadership and education teams here at Bloom 206, as we do everything in our power to make sure the seniors get to enjoy some version of the events they have looked forward to throughout their high school careers,” Navarre said. “We are a community with a shared mission of ensuring the best possible future for our young people and it’s important to us that they close this chapter of their stories with truly special celebrations of their success, regardless of what’s going on in the world around us.”
