It is Black History Month and the African-American Culture Club (A2C2) at Bloom High School is taking charge as a shining inspiration for the month.

The A2C2, sponsored by Kimberly Bateast and Zorriante Brown and led by club president, Nyanna Harris, has been leading many activities and events to celebrate black education, black culture, and black history. These events have all been centered around accomplishments the black community has made thus far.

So far, all of the events have been a major success. On the 3rd, the club watched Fruitvale Station, the story of Oscar Grant, as portrayed by Michael B. Jordan. On the 10th, they held a Trivia Bingo Night and a Culver’s Fundraiser, which was hosted by the very first Culver’s run by a black woman in Matteson, Illinois. Finally, on the 11th, the club held a Family Reading Night where the members of the club read books to families who attended.

Before the month ends, the A2C2 is planning a Spoken Word Night for the 17th, in which the winner will participate in Black History Assembly on February 26th. Also coming up this month is an HBCU college tour day, a musical KAHOOT! Night, and a “Take It Back” Day, on which the students will dress as they would have in the past. These events and a host of others can be found on the Bloom High School website.

February is here and for Bloom’s African-American Culture Club the month provides an opportunity to honor the memories, heroes, and teachings of rich and valuable history.
