Bloom JROTC Gives to Families in Need

Students only sent items to families in need in Texas as part of a continued effort to serve those in need.

Spearheaded by Cadet Jennifer Reasor, the NJROTC sent out support to the citizens in Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma, who were affected by the terrible snowstorms in the area. The cadets sent items of utmost importance such as masks, toiletries, baby formula, diapers, hand warmers, and activity books to help the children, who were affected, cope with any anxiety and depression they may feel.

This isn’t the first time the NJROTC has done its part to serve the community. For years, the populace has been able to rely on Cadets’ volunteering and assistance. Every year in December, they participate in the Wreaths Across America program, where they place Christmas wreaths on the graves of the fallen American heroes. Unfortunately, they couldn’t meet at Lincoln Cemetery, due to the pandemic-related restrictions, but they instead sponsored wreaths and participated in Trees For Troops, a program that donates Christmas trees to military families.

The volunteering doesn’t stop there, though. Starting this year, the cadets have supported several projects including:

The cadets have also donated material goods to support those made homeless from an apartment building fire in Richton Park.

Last month, the NJROTC was also engaged with the African American Culture Club (A2C2) with their Black History Month Activities. Throughout March, they will participate in the Women’s History Month Activities and Dr. Seuss’ Read Across America Literacy Campaign.

LT Henderson-Shaw says about their mission:

“Even during these stressful and challenging times, Bloom’s NJROTC Unit continues to support the community, while representing Bloom High School. Our Cadets are experiencing personal challenges due to the Pandemic, as we all are. Yet, they remain committed to serving others. Although we cannot meet in-person, we strive to uphold the Navy’s Core Values: Honor, Courage and Commitment, and the JROTC Creed - from a safe, social distance. Master Chief Blaschuk (NSI) and I commend our Cadets for their service, we applaud their Parents and Guardians for supporting the Unit’s endeavors and we appreciate the continued support that we receive from Bloom Township High School District 206. And, of course, we encourage everyone to stay safe during the pandemic. We’re from Bloom... couldn't be more proud!”
