Bloom Science Teacher Wins Golden Apple Award

Jill Krysinski, a science teacher at Bloom High School, was surprised by Golden Apple Foundation representatives in class on Thursday, May 2. Krysinski called just being nominated for the award 'an honor.'

It was business as usual for Bloom High School teacher Jill Krysinski in the classroom, until Golden Apple Foundation representatives popped into her morning class. Krysinski, a science teacher at Bloom, was in the middle of a morning class when the representatives surprised her with their visit to bestow the award, according to the Times Media Corporation.

Krysinski was one of ten Golden Apple Award winners in the state. She beat out more than 580 other nominees for the award. 

Along with receiving the Golden Apple, Krysinski will receive a $3,000 cash prize, a six-month, tuition free, sabbatical at Northwestern University and she becomes a Fellow of the Golden Apple Academy of Educators.

While instructing her class on the finer points of a group project, representatives dropped in to observe the class and award Krysinski. Despite her nomination and award, Krysinski was quick to say she was just doing her job at Bloom.

“I work with amazing teachers,” Krysinski told the times. “We all excel at our jobs.”
