Boxing Club Trains Youths In Self Defense and Self Esteem
Chicago Heights Boxing and Fitness trains youth and adult boxers in self defense and goal achievement.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — Chicago Heights Boxing and Fitness has been offering programs for youth and adults since early 2018. Children as young as seven can enroll in beginners’ boxing, with advanced youth classes offered to continue training and help build self esteem and self defense skills.
Owner Pat Lewandowski has been involved in boxing since 1988, including 12 years at the Chicago Heights Park District. Known at the gym as “Big Lew,” the trainer says his patrons know each other’s names and support each other during workouts.
“We create a competitive spirit where hard work and determination will allow youth and adults to reach their goals, be it in boxing or other endeavors,” Lewandowski said. “We teach you boxing while instilling self confidence and pride in what you do.”

Lewandowski noted the special importance of youth boxing and amateur events, citing a 123-pound novice from Chicago Heights who made the Golden Gloves amateur competition this year. He also said more female youth boxers are taking in interest in training at his gym.
“We put on several amateur boxing events at the gym itself,” Lewandowski said. “My last boxing event, we had people from all over the country, as far as way out in Atlanta, Georgia and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.”
