Fireworks Cause Garage Fire In Sauk Village: Fire Department

Quick-thinking neighbors prevented the spread of the early morning fire on 218th Place, a fire official said.

SAUK VILLAGE, IL — Fireworks are to blame for a garage fire that broke out early Monday morning, according to officials in Sauk Village. Neighbors of the owners of the garage that caught fire shortly before 1 a.m. in the 200 block of east 218th Place alerted the residents of the fire, according to the Sauk Village Fire Department.

"This fire could have been much worse if the neighbors were not so attentive," Sauk Village Fire Chief Stephen Barrett said. No one was injured.

Barrett said the blaze was the sixth fire in recent days in the Sauk Village area that broke out as a result of "fireworks being set off by untrained personnel."
