Humane Society Finds 98 Pets Homes At Clear The Shelter Event

The South Suburban Humane Society found 98 forever homes for cats and dogs at last week's Clear The Shelter Event.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — The South Suburban Humane Society found 98 cats and dogs forever homes in a robust turnout at Saturday's Clear the Shelters adoption event.

CEO Emily Klehm said that they were able to nearly empty out the new Homewood Adoption Center and the small dog room.

"We are really excited with the results of the day," she said.

Clear the Shelters is sponsored by NBC- and Telemundo-owned stations, which teamed with the Humane Society and others nationwide in the pet adoption drive. Since 2015, more than 250,000 pets have found forever homes as a result of the effort.

Klehm said some of the animals are still looking for homes. Toby and Donkey, which were featured in ads for the event and in this story, were not adopted Saturday. The big dog room is still full, too, she said.
