Lansing Teen Fatally Shot in Sauk Village

The 18-year-old was a passenger in a car when the shooting took place.

SAUK VILLAGE, IL — An 18-year-old man is dead and a suspect is in custody following a shooting Sunday night in Sauk Village.

Gerald Fortson, of the 17500 block of Maple Street, was pronounced dead at Franciscan Health hospital in Dyer, Ind., from a gunshot wound, Chicago Tribune reports. His death was ruled a homicide.

Fortson was a passenger in a vehicle in the 22100 block of Torrance Avenue. around 7 p.m., and was shot during a disagreement with a person not in the vehicle.

The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force later executed a search warrant and took a suspect into custody.
