Lit Fireworks Thrown At Park Forest Cop Car On 4th Of July
Police in Park Forest responded to more than four times the average number of calls in one night on the Fourth of July.
PARK FOREST, IL — Police in Park Forest were the victims of illegal activity in the village on the night of the Fourth of July holiday, according to reports. Someone threw lit fireworks at a police car in the 400 block of Westgate Drive while another police car was damaged when someone broke out a window while an officer and his K9 partner were inside, police said in a social media post over the holiday weekend.
Arrests have not made in either of the incidents, Park Forest Police Chief Christopher Mannino said Monday.
The two incidents were indicative of how busy of an overnight shift it was for officers working from the July 4 night to early morning on July 5, according to the social media post. The overnight shift handled 140 calls for service while a typical summer night shift includes 30-40 service calls, police said. One of the calls was a "shots fired" incident with no reported victims in the 100 block of Washington Street.
