Driver Charged with DUI in 8 a.m. Crash that Killed Man, Daughter

Three other children were rescued from the car moments before it caught fire.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL — A man now faces charged in a crash that took the lives of a 31-year-old Chicago Heights man and his 12-year-old daughter Sunday.

Bill Brown, 41, was driving the 2016 Nissan that witnesses said t-boned a BMW near Chicago Road and Lincoln Highway just before 8 a.m. Sunday.

Jose Juan Romero and his daughter Martiza were inside the BMW and died in the wreck. Three of Romero's other children—a 6-year-old son, 4-year-old son, and 2-year-old daughter—were pulled from the car just moments before it burst into flames. The eldest son remained in critical condition Monday; the younger son and daughter were in stable condition, all at Stroger Hospital in Chicago.

Brown was injured and taken to St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights. He was taken into custody upon his release Monday. He was charged with two counts of felony aggravated DUI-death and two counts of involuntary manslaughter. He was due in bond court in Markham Tuesday morning, ABC7 reports.

The accident is under investigation by the Chicago Heights Police Department Accident Investigation Unit and members of the South Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team
