Marian Catholic Basketball Team Is State Bound

The Marian Catholic High School boys basketball is in the IHSA State Finals for the first time ever after a dramatic Supersectional win.

DE KALB, IL - The Marian Catholic High School boys basketball is headed to the IHSA Class 3A state finals after winning its Supersectional Tuesday night. The Spartans defeated Metamora High School, 49-46 in overtime to earn a spot in the 4-team state playoff this weekend in Peoria. This is the first time in school history in which the boys basketball team has made the State Finals.

The Spartans' Supersectional win was a classic. It came down to Malik Tidwell hitting a buzzer-beating three-point shot to break a tie in the closing seconds of overtime. The team had to overcome a nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter just to force overtime.

It was the Spartans' first-ever win in the Elite Eight round of the state playoffs, having dropped both previous contests.
