The Marian Catholic High School cheerleading team earned a spot in the state finals for the first time in program history.

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, IL - The Marian Catholic High School girls cheerleading team is heading to the state finals for the first time in program history. The Spartans took fourth place at their sectional last weekend to earn them the berth in the state tournament set for Friday, Feb. 2 and Saturday, Feb. 3 at the Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington.

The team's appearance in the state finals is the first since the Illinois High School Association made competitive cheerleading a sport in 2005.

Ticket prices are $10 per session this weekend, according to the IHSA website. The website does not list the other schools that have qualified for the tournament.
