Photo Gallery: Bloom vs. Marian Catholic at Alumni Game

Bloom Varsity Basketball played against crosstown rival Marian Catholic on Saturday February 1st. Bloom won the non-conference game 72-55.

On Saturday February 1st, a crosstown rivalry in basketball came together at McCann Gym in Bloom High School in Chicago Heights. It was a special Bloom Township High alumni game featuring several familiar faces in the audience. Cheering on the Bloom Trojans was former Chicago Heights Mayor, Sam Ciambrone. Also in attendance was Debbie Halvorson Bush, former Bloom educator Lynda Byrd, former Bloom Superintendent Ron Patton, Paul Nykaza and many more Bloom alumni.

“What a great event today, to see Chicago Heights come out to support both teams” said Dr. Lenell Navarre, Superintendent of Bloom Township District 206. “Today, we have a lot of alumni from Bloom attending the game. On Tuesday’s game (playing Thornton) we had a full gym, today we have a lot of fans, we want to pack the gym for the remainder of the season.”

At halftime, Joe Reda, Bloom athletic director presented a plaque to player, Dante Maddox Jr. for making 1,000 points. Bloom varsity basketball team won the non-conference game, beating Marian Catholic by a score of 72-55.

“The ultimate goal is to take every game” Dr. Navarre said. “It’s been a tough two weeks with games. Looking for the players to keep victorious, stay healthy and keep playing.”
