Emerald Ash Borer Attacks Bloom High School Trees
The Bloom 206 Board of Education decided to cut down several trees in front of the school after destructive insects invaded them.

Over the weekend Patch readers sent emails and Facebook messages, asking why several trees in front of were cut down.
Freshly cut tree stumps now line the Chicago Road side of the school after the unanimously decided for Alguire's Tree Services to remove the trees.
Bloom 206 Director of Human Resources and Grants Joe Malizia briefly explained why the trees needed to come down. "The Ash trees were discovered to have Ash Borer disease," Malizia said.

The Emerald Ash Borer beetle is known to have killed more than 50 million trees in the United States and Canada. .
Several Patch readers wrote in, upset about the loss of the trees.

"There must have been a dozen huge trees that were destroyed," one reader said. "It's devastating and sad to think how long all of those beautiful trees have been there, and now they are all gone!"
Malizia said the District is looking into replacing the trees.
