Police Blotter: Man's Gun Stolen After Conflict With Landlord

Stolen Gun

A 30-year-old Chicago Heights man told police he left his Oak Street apartment on July 6 at 8 a.m. and returned July 7 at 9 a.m. to find his 75-pound steel safe was missing. The safe contained his silver semi-automatic handgun, valued at $300, a 9mm magazine for the gun, a bill of sale for the gun and the man's Firearm Owner Identification Card, according to the report. There was no sign of forced entry and the man said the only other people with access to the apartment were his ex-fiancee and the landlord, according to the report. The man said he had recently been in conflict with the landlord over the fact that he was two months behind on his rent, according to the report.

Arrested at the Library

Stanley T. Williams, 27, of the 4100 block of Lindenwood Drive in Matteson, was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing after an employee of the Chicago Heights Public Library told police Williams was being disruptive. Williams, who had an outstanding $70 fine on his Matteson library card wanted to use the computers, according to the report. Furthermore, library employees told Williams they could not help him with his fine, as it was from a different library, according to the report. After raising his voice multiple times, Williams was told to leave the property, but refused, police said. He was then taken into custody.

MONDAY, JULY 9

Kids in a Candy Store

An employee of the BP gas station in the 300 block of 14th Street told police five or six juveniles, around 13 or 14 years old, went into the business, grabbed $20 to $30 worth of candy and chips and ran out of the store. They were last seen heading west through the parking lot but were not located by police, according to the report.

Adults in a Liquor Store

An employee of ZZ's Liquor Store in the 100 block of East 14th Street told police he saw man in a white t-shirt take a six-pack of beer past the last point of purchase without paying. He man left the store and police were unable to locate him, according to the report. The incident was captured on the store's surveillance camera, police said.
