Police Blotter: What's a Robbery Between Friends?

Chicago Heights police reports, July 2-3.

TUESDAY, JULY 3

Robbed by a "Friend"

A 21-year-old Steger man told police he was walking near the intersection of 12th Street and Wilson Avenue with a friend when the so-called friend struck him on the side of his head with a beer bottle and said "Give me your money, (expletive)." The man handed his former friend a twenty dollar bill and the robber fled the area, according to the report. Police saw a 2-inch cut behind the man's ear, accoridng to the report. The victim told police he had just met the man and could not provide much information about him.

Break It Up

Police responded to a call about a large group fighting causing a disturbance near the intersection of 14th Street and Aberdeen Street, according to the report. Police gave several verbal commands for the group to stop fighting and leave the area, but four men refused to leave, according to the report. The four were arrested and charged with public nuisance, police said. The men's names are listed below.

  • Jesse Johnson, 18, of the 900 block of Union Drive in University Park

Fireworks at the Fireworks

Jabari Jones-Cooper, 18, of the 500 block of Shelly Lane, was arrested and charged with public nuisance after police saw him fighting and causing a "large disturbance" during the city fireworks display at Bloom's north field, according to the report. The disturbance was so bad several attendees fled the area, police said.

DUI

John C. Hernandez, 19, of the 7000 block of Kennedy Road in Peotone, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police stopped him near the intersection of Joe Orr Road and Ashland Avenue for erratic driving, according to the report. Asked if he had been drinking, Hernandez told police he had several beers throughout the night. After taking field sobriety tests, Hernandez was taken into custody, police said. He was also charged with disobeying a stop sign, improper lane use, no driver's license on person and having a blood-alcohol content above .08. according to the report.
