Rabid Bat Attacks Woman in Crete

The woman's encounter with the bat happened as she was cleaning a swimming pool.

CRETE, IL — A woman was recently attacked and bitten by a rabid bat in Crete.

The woman was reportedly cleaning a swimming pool when the bat bit her on the neck and hand, ABC7 reports. As she was swatting at the bat, she injured it and it fell to the ground, according to the report.

The bat was picked up by Will County Animal Control. It test positive for rabies and the woman was treated at a local hospital.

Residents are urged to contact their local animal control if they notice any wild animal acting abnormally. For example, a nocturnal animal out during daylight hours, or an animal struggling to walk.
