A storm system is moving through the Chicago area tonight. Some communities will be hit with thunderstorms in the early evening while a second wave later in the night brings the possibility of hail the size of quarters, wind gusts to 60 miles per hour and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, according to the National Weather Service’s Chicago office.
“Most storms will be capable of winds to 35 mph and with heavy downpours,” the NWS forecast reads. “Storms are expected to move west to east across the outlook area tonight.”
The system is expected to diminish in intensity over the night, but strong to severe thunderstorms are possible again Friday afternoon and evening.
