College of DuPage Hosts Viewing of Rare 'Supermoon' Total Lunar Eclipse
This type of eclipse has only occurred five times every 18 years until it was last seen in 1982.

The astronomy program at College of DuPage is hosting a viewing of a rare “Supermoon” total lunar eclipse from 8 to 11 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27, on the College’s main campus, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.
Weather permitting, the viewing will be held on the north side of COD’s campus outside the Berg Instructional Center (BIC).

During the eclipse, participants will have the opportunity to view the eclipse and take photographs using the College’s high-tech equipment, including high-powered tripod-mounted binoculars, several four-inch diameter reflecting telescopes, a four-inch diameter refracting telescope, an eight-inch diameter computerized Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and a twelve-inch diameter Dobsonian reflecting telescope.
In addition, attendees will be able to take photographs though the telescopes.

Since 1910, this event has only occurred five times every 18 years until it was last seen in 1982. The next occurrence won’t happen until 2033.
