Darien Business' 'Unfortunate' Mask Issue: Mayor
Mayor Joseph Marchese talks about business' response to situation reported on social media.
DARIEN, IL — Darien's mayor said Monday that the city finds instances when staff and others at local businesses are violating mask mandates. One such case happened at Carriage Greens Country Club, he said
"We recently had one unfortunate incident at Carriage Greens that was reported on social media," Mayor Joseph Marchese told the City Council.
As a result, city officials spoke with Carriage Greens management about the issue. The business, Marchese said, responded with an apology for its actions and a commitment not to let it happen again. The mayor did not describe the incident.

"We are all humans and as humans, we make mistakes," he said.
In an interview Tuesday, City Administrator Bryon Vana said someone posted on the Nextdoor social media website about seeing a group of patrons and possibly employees at Carriage Greens going maskless. He said the mayor wanted to point out that Carriage Greens was being cautious.

At Monday's meeting, Marchese said Carriage Greens told him that the business was spending $100 a day on personal protective equipment, chemicals and labor because of the coronavirus.
"They are washing your tables down, cleaning the washrooms every three hours. The washrooms get disinfected," the mayor said. "While we have this incident, I wanted people to know that they are following through and practicing proper procedures."
