Darien Continues To See Low Virus Rates: County
City's rate of increase for coronavirus cases only slightly higher than the state's.
DARIEN, IL — Darien's continued its low rates of increase in new coronavirus cases, DuPage County Health Department figures show.
As of Sunday, Darien had 1,503 coronavirus cases since the pandemic's beginning, up 19 from a week before, or a 1.3 percent hike. The previous's week's increase was 1.2 percent. In the seven weeks before that, the hikes ranged from 1.4 percent to 7.5 percent.
The city's number of local deaths has remained the same over the last few weeks, totaling 18. That works out to less than a thousandth of Darien's population.

Darien's rate of increase in coronavirus cases of 1.3 percent was higher than DuPage County's 1 percent hike in the last week. Darien makes up 2.3 percent of the county's population, but only 2.1 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload.
As of Sunday, Darien had 69.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 68.4 in La Grange Park, 72.6 in Western Springs, 75.7 in Hinsdale, 77.9 in DuPage County, 79 in Elmhurst, 82.4 in Clarendon Hills, 86.5 in suburban Cook County, 91 in Burr Ridge and 96.5 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,186,696, up 1.2 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 20,516 state residents.
Nationally, 28.3 million people have caught the virus, up 1.7 percent from the week before. A total of 508,949 people have died from the virus in the United States.
