Darien Lottery Ticket Wins $1 Million Prize: Report
The winner is a regular customer at local store, lottery says.
DARIEN, IL — Someone who bought an Illinois Lottery ticket in Darien has struck the $1 million jackpot, according to a lottery news release. The person has yet to claim it.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Citgo gas station at 402 W. Plainfield Road.
This latest instance marks the second time a Lotto player has become an overnight millionaire in the past few months, according to the release. In April, the winning ticket was purchased at a BP gas station in Dwight.

Bill McCloskey, chief operating officer of RMart, which manages the Citgo, said he was glad to share the news. He said the winner is a regular customer who has been frequenting the store for some time now.
It is the second million-dollar winning ticket sold at the Citgo, which has been selling tickets since 1993, according to the lottery.

“We sold another one about 10 years ago as well. So I think that should make us a ‘lucky store'!" McCloskey said in the news release.
McCloskey explained how the Citgo is different from other places.
“The Darien store is the true definition of a ‘neighborhood store,' as it is tucked in a residential neighborhood and park, where we get a lot of foot traffic from local residents,” he said. “The best part of selling Illinois Lottery is the customer loyalty that it brings to our store. We depend a lot on one-on-one interactions with our customers and that is what selling lottery does. It helps us to get to see our customers regularly, and it is a bonus when we sell a big winner like this one.”
The store gets a 1 percent bonus of $10,000 for selling the ticket.
