Darien Returns To Bigger Virus Case Hikes: County
The town experiences two more coronavirus-related deaths in the last week.
DARIEN, IL — Darien returned to a larger weekly increase in coronavirus cases in the last week, according to the DuPage County Health Department.
After a couple of 4 percent weekly jumps in cases, Darien saw a 7.5 percent hike last week. As of Sunday, Darien had 1,229 coronavirus cases, up 86 from a week earlier.
The number of local deaths from the coronavirus increased by two in the last week, now totaling 16. That works out to less than a thousandth of Darien's population.

Darien's rate of increase in coronavirus cases of 7.5 percent was higher than DuPage County's 5 percent hike in the last week. Darien makes up 2.3 percent of the county's population, but only 2 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload.
As of Sunday, Darien had 56.8 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 51.7 in La Grange Park, 57.1 in Western Springs, 59.8 in Hinsdale, 65.7 in DuPage County, 66.2 in Elmhurst, 66.6 Clarendon Hills, 71.4 in suburban Cook County, 73.4 in Burr Ridge and 78.5 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 979,821, up 4.5 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 16,755 state residents.
Nationally, 20.3 million people have caught the virus, up 7.6 percent from the week before. A total of 349,246 people have died from the virus in the United States.
