Darien Virus Rate Up Slightly In Last Week: County

DARIEN, IL — Darien saw its percentage rate in new coronavirus cases tick up slightly in the last week.

As of Sunday, Darien had 1,383 coronavirus cases, up 52 cases from a week before, or a 3.9 percent increase, according to the DuPage County Health Department. The previous three weeks' increases, in chronological order, were 7.5 percent, 4.5 percent and 3.7 percent.

The number of local deaths from the coronavirus stayed the same in the last week, still totaling 17. That works out to less than a thousandth of Darien's population.

The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

Darien's rate of increase in coronavirus cases of 3.9 percent was higher than DuPage County's 2.9 percent hike in the last week. Darien makes up 2.3 percent of the county's population, but only 2.1 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload.

As of Sunday, Darien had 63.9 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than most of its neighbors. The figure compares to 63.4 in La Grange Park, 65.9 in Western Springs, 68.5 in Hinsdale, 72.7 in DuPage County, 74 in Elmhurst, 76.9 in Clarendon Hills, 80.4 in suburban Cook County, 83.8 in Burr Ridge and 89.6 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,101,819, up 3.5 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 18,750 state residents.

Nationally, 24.9 million people have caught the virus, up 5.2 percent from the week before. A total of 416,010 people have died from the virus in the United States.
