Darien's Most Dedicated Runners Take Part in the Chicago Marathon

Forty-seven runners from Darien signed up for the race.

CHICAGO, IL — A total of 47 runners from Darien took part in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon yesterday. The 26.2-mile course took runners through 29 Chicago neighborhoods that went all the way north to Wrigley Field and south to US Cellular Field.

Jacqueline Mayweather, 30, was the first Darien resident to finish the race at a total time of 3:23:36, according to unofficial Chicago Marathon results. She finished 3,472nd overall, 528th in her gender and 140th in her 30-34 age division.

Close behind Mayweather was Jessica Sokolowski, who finished in 3:24:25 and placed 90th in her 35-39 age group division.

Here are some of Darien’s other fastest finishers:

  • Brian Murphy, 38 (35-39 age division), 3:30:44
  • Shannon Hayes, 38 (35-39 age division), 4:00:40
  • Alan Tagudar, 43 (40-44 age division), 4:00:54
  • Verna Reyes, 35 (35-39 age division), 4:02:25
  • Jon Tan, 46 (45-49 age division), 4:05:36

Elite runners from Kenya dominated the race. Kenyan Abel Kirui finished first with a time of 2:11:22, beating out last year’s champion and fellow Kenyan Dickson Chum in the final mile. Florence Kiplagat, 29, was the top female finisher clocking in at 2:22:31. Results are still unofficial.
