Darien's Virus Rate Hike Less Than 1%: County
The city's percentage increase is slightly lower than DuPage County's.
DARIEN, IL — Darien saw another week with a low rate of increase in coronavirus cases, according to the DuPage County Health Department.
As of Sunday, Darien had seen 1,520 such cases since the beginning of the pandemic, up 14 from a week before, or a 0.9 percent hike. The previous week, Darien experienced three new cases, or an increase of two-tenths of 1 percent.
The city's number of local coronavirus deaths has remained the same over the last few weeks, totaling 18. That works out to less than a thousandth of Darien's population.

Darien's rate of increase in coronavirus cases of nine-tenths of 1 percent was lower than DuPage County's 1 percent hike in the last week. Darien makes up 2.3 percent of the county's population, but only 2.1 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload.
As of Sunday, Darien had 70.3 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than its neighbors. The figure compares to 70.8 in La Grange Park, 74.3 in Western Springs, 77.6 in Hinsdale, 79.5 in DuPage County, 80.7 in Elmhurst, 85.1 in Clarendon Hills, 88 in suburban Cook County, 92.3 in Burr Ridge and 98.5 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,207,847, up seven-tenths of 1 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 20,924 state residents.
Nationally, 29.2 million people have caught the virus, up 1.6 percent from the week before. A total of 530,693 people have died from the virus in the United States.
