Darien's Weekly Virus Increase Nearing Zero
The city has seen no coronavirus deaths in weeks, according to health agency.
DARIEN, IL — Darien saw just three new coronavirus cases in the last week, according to the DuPage County Health Department.
That increase works out to two-tenths of 1 percent, the lowest since the beginning of the pandemic. As of Sunday, Darien had 1,506 coronavirus cases since the crisis' start, up from 1,503 the week before.
The city's number of local coronavirus deaths has remained the same over the last few weeks, totaling 18. That works out to less than a thousandth of Darien's population.

Darien's rate of increase in coronavirus cases of two-tenths of 1 percent was lower than DuPage County's 1.1 percent hike in the last week. Darien makes up 2.3 percent of the county's population, but only 2.1 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload.
As of Sunday, Darien had 69.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people, better than its neighbors. The figure compares to 69.8 in La Grange Park, 73.1 in Western Springs, 76.7 in Hinsdale, 78.6 in DuPage County, 79.9 in Elmhurst, 83.6 in Clarendon Hills, 87.2 in suburban Cook County, 91.7 in Burr Ridge and 97.6 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).
As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,198,335, up 1 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 20,763 state residents.
Nationally, 28.7 million people have caught the virus, up 1.5 percent from the week before. A total of 521,294 people have died from the virus in the United States.
