Hinsdale South Student Charged With Disorderly Conduct for Threatening to 'Shoot Up' School

This incident comes in addition to the boy who was charged with 8 felonies after a similar threat. That student is currently in custody.

A Hinsdale South High School student was charged with disorderly conduct Oct. 6 when he allegedly threatened to shoot up the school over the outcome of the presidential election, the Chicago Tribune reported.

High school principal Stephanie Palmer said that after a short investigation, it was determined the student had been joking about the threat.

“He was trying to be funny,” Palmer said. “But it wasn’t funny.”

This incident came just three days after another Hinsdale South student made threats on social media that were deemed truly dangerous by police and landed the student in juvenile custody.

The boy said he regretted the joke and that he was sorry, but local police said they still had no tolerance for any such threats and charged him for disorderly conduct on a local ordinance.

Hinsdale School District 86 has an online tip line and a tip app that District Superintendent Bruce Law encourages people to use.

“We take them [tips] all seriously,” he told the Tribune. “Keep them coming. If you see something, say something.”
