Hinsdale South's Plans For Homecoming And Prom

The school plans some festivities for homecoming week, an official says.

DARIEN, IL — Homecoming usually happens when the leaves are changing colors and the days are getting colder. This school year is different, thanks to the pandemic.

With the football season expected to start soon, Hinsdale South High School is planning some version of homecoming.

The homecoming football game with the school's traditional rival, Downers Grove South, is set for March 26. The school plans a coronation ceremony for the homecoming court, which students elect. A king and queen also will be announced. And the Stinger Bowl, Hinsdale South's version of a powder puff game, is also in the works for homecoming week. But the school plans no homecoming dance.

As for prom, Nick Chavarria, the school's activities director, said the school doesn't know what will happen yet and is preparing for multiple options.

"The first plan was to have a normal prom. We're still hoping that somehow will happen, but it's probably not going to. We want to do something that the kids will enjoy," he said.
