Just 1 New Coronavirus Case In Darien: County

DARIEN, IL — Darien saw a grand total of one new coronavirus case in the last week, according to the DuPage County Health Department.

As of Sunday, Darien had a total of 1,763 coronavirus cases, a 0.1 percent increase from the week before. The previous week, the city experienced nine new cases.

The city's number of coronavirus deaths stayed the same in the last week, at 21. That works out to less than a thousandth of Darien's population.

The number of those who have recovered is unavailable.

Darien's rate of increase in coronavirus cases of 0.1 percent was lower than DuPage County's rate of 1.4 percent in the last week. Darien makes up 2.3 percent of the county's population, but 2.1 percent of the county's coronavirus caseload.

As of Sunday, Darien had 81.5 coronavirus cases per thousand people since the pandemic's beginning, better than its neighbors. The figure compares to 88.2 in La Grange Park, 91.6 in DuPage County, 93.5 in Hinsdale, 94.2 in Elmhurst, 98.8 in Western Springs, 99.9 in Clarendon Hills, 102 in suburban Cook County, 104.2 in Burr Ridge and 120.8 in La Grange (including unincorporated La Grange Highlands).

As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,387,297, up 0.1 percent from a week earlier, according to the state Department of Public Health. The number of confirmed deaths so far is 23,050.

Nationally, 33.3 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported, up 0.3 percent from the week before, according to the Centers for Disease Control. A total of 596,971 people have died from the virus in the United States.
