Moms Connect

Moms Connect will begin a new year on September 27, 2020 at St. John Lutheran Church located at 7214 South Cass Avenue in Darien, IL. The group will meet on the second and fourth Sunday of most months from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. through May 23, 2021. This new weekend time is meant to better serve moms who are employed outside the home or are assisting their children with remote learning during the week. CDC and State of Illinois guidelines for safety will be followed throughout the year. Childcare is not currently offered, but babies in arms may be brought.

Deaconess Phaedra Serbus, a wife, mother, and Director of Youth & Family Ministry, facilitates the group. Moms Connect brings mothers of all ages and stages together for practical, faith-based parenting support, encouragement, and growth. You can expect to find an inviting, caring atmosphere geared to making new friends and to engaging in meaningful discussion. Moms Connect is open to community moms as well as those associated with the church.

This year’s initial focus will be based on the recently released book, Let Them Be Kids: Adventure, Boredom, Innocence, and Other Gifts Children Need by Jessica Smartt (available from Amazon.com or Hoopla Digital). This well-researched book with tested strategies, woven together with personal stories and witty humor, delivers wisdom on how parents can protect their children from the negative pressures and influences of the world while also preparing them for age-appropriate realities. Learn how to provide a safe, healthy, Christ-centered upbringing for your children while building family values together.
