Police Blotter: Candy Bar Purchased With Counterfeit Bill at Jewel

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 22

Theft

Sometime between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., someone stole a purse from a shopping cart at the Brookhaven Marketplace at 7516 Cass Avenue. The purse's owner told Darien Police that she left the purse in her cart while she was loading groceries and left the parking lot. When she realized she forgot her purse, she returned to the store, and the purse was gone. According to the owner, the total loss was about $1000.

Theft

Sometime between 5 p.m. on September 13 and 10 a.m. on September 15, someone stole an iPad from a home on the 7700 Block of Florence, the resident told police. The estimated loss was $400.

Fraud

Employees told Darien Police a black male and black female entered the Jewel at 7335 Cass Avenue around 7:55 p.m. They said the couple used two counterfeit $10 bills and attempted to purchase items. The female was successful in the purchase of a candy bar, but the male was unsuccessful. Total loss was about $10.
