Recycle Used Holiday Lights At Darien Police Station
Darien residents can recycle their holiday lights at the police station at 1710 Plainfield Rd. from Nov. 13 through Feb. 9.

DARIEN, IL — The holiday season has arrived and with it, the stress-inducing struggle of untangling holiday lights, plugging them all in, and trying to find that one burnt-out bulb. Luckily, the City of Darien is collecting unused and unusable holiday lights to recycle them again this year. Last year, Darien residents donated and recycled more than 2,072 pounds of holiday lights through this program.
The holiday lights recycling drive, which is done in partnership with Elgin Recycling, will run from Nov. 13 through Feb. 9, giving residents plenty of time to gather up those treacherously tangled strands. A post on the City of Darien website says that all types and colors of lights and strands will be accepted, including:
- Rope lights
- LED lights
- C7 lights
- C9 lights
- Extension cords
Lights can be dropped off at any time of day in the bin outside of Darien Police Department at 1710 Plainfield Rd. The city asks that residents remove lights from their own bags and boxes and leave only the strings and lights behind in the designated bin.
