School Bus Hit, Drug Possession: Darien Cops
A school bus was struck while the driver was pumping gas, with the suspect leaving the scene before being caught, police say.
DARIEN, IL — Darien police released their latest blotter Thursday. Here is information from the reports:
School bus hit
- Martel Green, 33, of Lemont, was cited about 7:30 p.m. May 26 on charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving damage to an attended vehicle, driving with a suspended license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. According to a police report, a school bus driver was pumping gas and cleaning the side of the bus at Speedway gas station, 10250 Lemont Road, when a car struck the bus while backing up at a high rate of speed, causing damage. The bus driver tried to stop the suspect, identified as Green, but was struck by Green's car, which was later found in the 300 block of Stephens Street. Green was released and given a date to appear in court.

- Anthony Quinones, 24, of Darien, was arrested about 9 a.m. May 25 on a Kane County warrant charging possession of a controlled substance. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
Disorderly conduct
- Gary Calugi, 75, of Darien, was cited about 11:30 a.m. May 24 in the 6700 block of High Road on a charge of disorderly conduct. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
DUI

- Tyler Veart, 24, of Westmont, was arrested about 1 a.m. Sunday in the 6600 block of Cass Avenue on charges of DUI, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lane usage. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
Warrant
- Derek Evans, 27, of Westmont, was arrested about 1 p.m. May 24 on a DuPage County warrant charging failure to appear in court. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
Driving violations
- Ramiro Ochoa Ochoa, 22, of Romeoville, was cited about 3 p.m. May 24 on 75th Street on charges of driving with a suspended license and disobeying a traffic control signal. Ochoa Ochoa was released and given a date to appear in court.
- Enrique Ayala Salvador, 41, of Chicago, was arrested about 10:30 a.m. May 25 in the 8900 block of Lemont Road on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and using a phone while driving. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
- Latroya McElrath, 26, of Joliet, was cited about 7 p.m. May 26 in the 8200 block of Cass Avenue on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and speeding. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
- Brian Fernandez, 40, of Downers Grove, was cited about 4:30 p.m. May 27 at Manning Road and Cottage Lane on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and speeding. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
- A 15-year-old boy of Chicago was cited about 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the 7600 block of Lemont Road on charges of no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lighting. He was released to his parents and given a date to appear in court.
