Speedway Gas Leak Under Investigation As Company Fields Incidents In Darien, Surrounding Communities
Speedway issued a statement to families impacted by the recent gas leak that contaminated the Flagg Creek Sanitary System.

DARIEN, IL — Speedway is trying to troubleshoot as quickly as it can after a gas leak on Oct. 20 triggered home explosions in Westmont and contaminated Darien's Flagg Creek Sanitary System. In total, 10 home explosions and fires were reported as a result of the leak, which stemmed from an incident at the Speedway at 6241 S. Cass Ave. in Westmont.
In a document posted on the City of Darien website, Speedway provided a phone number for those who had been impacted by the gas leak to file claims. Residents who need to file a claim can call (866) 601-5880. In-person claims can be filed between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. at a newly established claims center located at 38 W. 63rd Ave.
Speedway has also set up an incident response website to keep residents up to date on any developments. The website states that there is an ongoing investigation to find what caused the gas leak. Teams are also working to clean up any remaining leakage in the aftermath.

The company organized an emergency response team of more than 100 employees to "resolve issues and return impacted persons, businesses and areas to normal in a timely, efficient manner," the website states. Speedway has provided accommodations for residents who have been displaced from their homes.
The website included a statement of gratitude to impacted residents for their "patience and understanding" as the company works to field the repercussions of the gas leak.
