Stolen Car, Self-Checkout Theft: Darien Cops

A car valued at $40,000 was stolen early in the morning, police say.

DARIEN, IL — In the last few days, Darien police have handled cases involving a stolen car, under-scanning items at a self-checkout, DUIs and driving violations. Here is information from the latest Darien police reports:

Stolen car

  • An SUV was stolen in the early morning of March 15 at a house in the 8300 block of Cramer Lane. The car was a 2014 Cherokee valued at $40,000. Security video shows a person near the car about 5:30 a.m.

  • Kennan Johnson, 21, of Bolingbrook, was cited about 1 p.m Sunday at Walmart, 2189 75th St., on a charge of retail theft. Employees said security footage showed Johnson under-scanning items at the self-checkout register. The total loss was $34.49. He was released and given a date to appear in court.

DUIs

  • Domas Stamulevicius, 34, of Palos Hills, was arrested about 1:30 a.m. March 17 near Cass Avenue and South Frontage Road on charges of DUI, improper lane usage and speeding. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
  • Desirae Harris, 29, of Woodridge, was arrested about 3 p.m. Friday on charges of DUI and unlawful possession of marijuana by a driver. She was released and given a date to appear in court. Police were called about a reckless driver near Timber Trails and North Frontage Road. A witness then told police that a woman, identified as Harris, was at the Circle K gas station, 8975 Frontage Road, parked by a pump and behind the wheel with the car running and her eyes closed.

  • Tyreonna Shepard, 19, of Chicago, was cited about 7 a.m. Thursday on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving damage to an attended vehicle and failure to report an accident to police. She was released and given a date to appear in court. While responding to a hit-and-run accident at 75th Street and Plainfield Road, an officer saw a car matching the description of the suspect's.
  • Dion Allen, 23, of Chicago, was cited at 9 p.m. Saturday in the 7900 block of Lemont Road on charges of unlawful possession of marijuana by a driver, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and speeding. He was speeding 60 mph in a 40 mph zone. He was released and given a date to appear in court.
  • Obidh Saalm, 27, of Darien, was cited about 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Cass Avenue at Plainfield Avenue on charges of driving with a suspended license, no front plate and loud muffler. The driver was released and given a date to appear in court.
  • Carlos Velazquez Gonzalez, 18, of Woodridge, was cited about 11:30 p.m. Sunday at 75th Street and Lyman Avenue on charges of driving without a license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and speeding. He was speeding 61 mph in a 40 mph zone. A loud exhaust noise was heard from the car as it sped up from a stop.
